Start the day with fresh lemon in warm water. This is an oldie, but a goodie.
Sometimes it is the simple things in life that we forget to do.. perhaps because we are so busy and preoccupied?? But it’s these simple things that really can make such a huge impact to our health if we just stop and take a little time to add them into our daily routine.
Something as simple as a glass of warm water with a slice of lemon can have big benefits!
A nice dose of Vitamin C, extra hydration, stimulation of your digestive enzymes and liver cleansing. … for some extra goodness, try adding some fresh grated ginger, this will also add a nice punch of extra warmth, digestive stimulation & anti-inflammatory liver support.
Go on, your gut and liver will thank you for it!!
As some of you might know, I’ve started my Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at RMIT this year… so I’ve been learning some interesting things! According to Chinese medicine theory, warming food and drink in the morning encourage and support the rising of our Yang energy to help give us energy and motivation for the day! Whereas cold foods and beverages first thing in the morning can be too Yin, depleting our Qi.
From a Naturopathic perspective, cold food and drinks can be very constricting to your digestive system and reduce proper functioning. Whereas warmth encourages the production of digestive enzymes and enhances proper digestive function.
If you’re feeling tired and you’re digestive system isn’t all that happy with you, try sticking to just warm (or at least just room/body temp) foods and beverages for the beginning of your day and see if you feel any different. This may be particularly helpful for people who wake tired and sluggish, with a lack of morning appetite.
